We each live our lives focused on the world as we see it through our own eyes. The intellectually curious may, from time to time, wonder about another person’s life experiences and how they are experiencing a common event. How many of us take that extra step and wonder what the “other person” is experiencing when we are participants in the “common event”?
Not very often! In fact, according to an article from decades ago, we are exclusively focused on our own perspective ninety-four percent of the time. People spend ninety-four percent of their time thinking about themselves, their own needs, issues, agenda and future action plans. Understanding, and addressing this dynamic is the core of this course.
From participating in this course, you will come to understand that your ninety-four percent is only your view, and not everyone else shares your view. You will get to practice and apply the concept within this course – demonstrating that you are able to listen and learn from someone else’s viewpoint (their ninety-four percent). This course teaches you to be better prepared to negotiate decisions and compromise with others.
Learning to view events from someone else’s perspective is a key element of addressing disruptive behavior.
